How to play
  • Four players, thirteen cards each, and the aim is to take as few points as possible.
  • Every heart is one point and the queen of spades is thirteen, so a hand is worth twenty six between everybody.
  • Before each hand you pass three cards. Left, then right, then across, then a hand where nobody passes at all and you are stuck with what you were dealt.
  • The two of clubs opens the hand. Follow the suit that was led if you can, and if you cannot, play anything.
  • Nothing that scores may be played on the very first trick, and hearts cannot be led until one has already been played on somebody else's trick.
  • Take every single point in a hand and you have shot the moon. The twenty six goes to everyone else instead, which is either the best thing that will happen to you all evening or a near miss that ends the game.
  • First to a hundred ends it, and the lowest score wins. There is no undo here, unlike the rest of the table, because taking a trick back would mean unseeing three other hands.
  • Play online and one of you starts a table and reads out a six character code. Up to four people can sit down, and the computer plays any seat still empty. Whoever started the table is running the game, so if they close the tab everybody else goes back to playing the computer. Somebody who leaves mid hand is taken over by the computer rather than ending it for the other three.
